Method 3 – Using Remote Desktop Program

Method 3 – Using Remote Desktop Program

Note: Since late 2024, Microsoft has released and recommend we use the Windows App. We’ve left the instructions here just in case.

To install Windows App instead, head to Method 1 - Using Windows App

  1. Download the Remote Desktop app from the link below based on the operating system the machine is using.

Windows:

Get started with the Remote Desktop client for Azure Virtual Desktop

Mac:

Get started with the Remote Desktop client for Azure Virtual Desktop

  1. On the Remote Desktop app, click the 3-dot (‘…’) icon to bring up the menu.

  1. Select ‘Subscribe’

Note: For Mac users, instead of clicking ‘Subscribe’ button, Mac user will need to click on ‘Add Workspace’ on Remote Desktop app

  1. For users who are currently logged into a different Microsoft account, select ‘Use another account’ otherwise skip this step.

  1. Sign in using your provided user account and select ‘Next.’

  1. Put in your password and select ‘Sign in’

  1. If you encounter the following error after sign in – cancel the process and sign in using the ‘Subscribe with URL’ option. The error is caused from your system using an existing Microsoft account and it tries to log the ‘@hosting.moveconnect.cloud’ into the same organisation which is incorrect.

  1. If this is your first time logging into the system, you may be prompted to set up Multi Factor Authentication (MFA). In case you wish not to set it up now, you can click on ‘Skip’ for now. This allows you to skip it for 14 days. If you choose to skip for 14 days, then please go to step 9 after clicking ‘Next’. To set up MFA follow the steps provided in the following link: Setting up Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA)

  1. Once you sign in successfully on to the Remote Desktop app, you will have a remote connection icon appear in your Remote Desktop app. Just double click on it to access the machine.

10. For users presented with a list of user accounts to select from to connect, select your provided user account. Selecting other accounts will result in failure.

11. Enter your password and click ‘Sign in’

12. Remote Desktop app will ask you to allow the remote desktop connection, click ‘Yes’ and you will be connected to remote session.
