Moveware System Backup

The files that are required to be backed up from the Server are as follows:

Moveware Database

Using a Databases Tools – Client or Databases Tools, Moveware creates a basic backup of your database files from C:\Databases\{Live11/Beta11/Test11}. The backup runs while the database is active and does not need to be stopped to create the backup. This is known as an “Online” backup. The Databases Tools – Client is locate in C:\Moveware\Company folder. A standard copy of the file can be found in C:\Moveware\Live\Setup. It will make a copy of the Moveware.* file in the database directory and create a single backup file call Moveware.backup. By default this file is normally create in the C:\Databases\Live11\Backup folder but it can be create in another specified location, such as to a data folder. This backup database can be used if you need to rebuild your Moveware database. The Database Tools contains the Progress backup utility called Backup_StandAlone.bat which is run twice; once to backup the database and once to verify the backup has been successfully created. The syntax for the backup command is: PROBKUP online <database filename> <backup filename> where “online” is the switch to tell the backup utility that it is an online backup,<database filename> is the name of the database file (usually c:\databases\live11\Moveware) and <backup filename> is the name of the database backup file. It is recommended that this backup batch file is run regularly, for every day at 20:05. It is usually set up via the Microsoft Scheduled Tasks utility or other scheduling program so that it’s an automatic process. It is your company’s responsibility to monitor this backup and ensure that it is working correctly. If additional information is required, this should also be backed up by your company. Note that the Databases Tools require proper configuration in config.bat.

Moveware Phone Database

The Moveware Phone Database which is required to run Moveware which is  usually located in C:\Databases\Phone11 is backed up.note: Phone Database using by UK and some other

Custom Files

Custom report, mail merge templates and configuration files reside in C:\Moveware\Company by default.  You should make a copy of your C:\Moveware\Company folder and any Word merge templates used in Moveware which may be located elsewhere on your network.

The Removals Folder

You should make a copy of your Moveware folder and all subfolders as it is required to run Moveware. The current program files for Moveware reside in this directory. A replacement copy can also be obtained from Moveware. The Moveware folder can be backed up when you perform your standard backup of the Server. The Database Tool and other configuration of Moveware service are in Moveware\Shared folder. Please refer to your IT Systems administrator for more information.

Other files

Whilst not critical, there are two configuration files that can simplify the process of restoring your Moveware system. They are called conmgr.properties and ubroker.properties. Both can be found in C:\Progress\OpenEdge11\Properties on your Moveware database server. A Database Tools – Client Please refer to your IT Systems administrator for more information.

Note: If all these files are backed up there is no requirement to backup Moveware programs on the client workstations as these can be restored from the files backed up from the server.

•Progress OpenEdge 11.6

•Progress OpenEdge 11.6.3
