The charges for Containers, Packing and Unpacking are calculated from the Packing/Unpack fields on Job Details.

There are 5 possible pack types available:

  1. None (no packing required)

  2. Full (based on Weight)

  3. Unit (based on Materials)

  4. Brk/Mat (Breakables & Mattresses Only)

  5. Mattresses Only

Unpacking has the exact same options as packing. Below is a breakdown of how each of the pack types affect what is passed through to Techmate and therefore returned as a price.

Pack Type: None (no packing required)

This is fairly straight forward, if this is selected, no container & packing charges will be generated for this job.

Pack Type: Full (Based on Weight)

When this option is selected, it ignores the packing materials that are added into the resources and simply returns a price from Techmate that is based on the Net Lbs on the job.

Pack Type: Unit (Based on Materials)

This option will pass through any packing materials in the resources section of the job that has an underlying index set which can be understood by Techmate.

To understand this better, let’s take a look at an example job where there are a couple of different containers added to the resources:

Carton 5.1 Dishpack is a type of carton that will generate a price as it has an underlying index number, this can be seen from the background setup in Operations -> Inventory:

The Code set against the inventory is what Techmate uses to determine the Container, packing and unpacking prices associated with this particular article. Techmate will provide a list of codes used to represent each carton.

The ‘Est’ column of the resources tab decides how many of the corresponding container is being supplied & packed.

Pack Type: Brk/Mat (Breakables & Mattresses Only)

This pack option is similar to the Unit pack option in that it uses the resources section to determine what is being supplied and packed, however it is more selective in what is being packed rather than everything that has a code set in the background.

In this case, only Breakables & Mattresses are being packed:

A carton is breakable if its ‘Breakable’ flag is set to ‘Y’ in the background (under inventory management):

A resource item is considered a Mattress if it contains the word ‘Mattress’ in the Name/Number:

Pack Type: Mat (Mattresses Only)

This is the same as the above pack type with the exception that only packing resources with Mattress in the name/number column will be considered for packing.

Unpacking works in the exact same way as packing with the exception that the parameter used to determine the unpacking options needs to be specified in the ‘Unpacking’ field. The same 5 options are available for unpacking as they are available for packing.
